Meralco Refunding Meter Deposit
Good news from Meralco consumers!!! (To read the official press release, click here)
Meralco has begun refunding the meter deposit including interest in compliance with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Resolution No. 8, Series of 2008. All eligible residential customers with small kilowatthour consumption shall be processed first. These are residential consumers who paid the meter deposit required by law from 1987 to 2004. These consumers will be notified in their electric bill of their schedule and where they will be refunded.
Those customers with bigger consumption will follow and then the non-residential customers or those who paid their meter deposit required by law from 1987 to 2006 will be processed.
According to Meralco, only the rightful customer who paid the meter deposit will be reimbursed the principal and the interest the law has set. As soon as the customer is notified through their electric bill, they can proceed to the Business Center specified in their bills and fill out a Refund Application Form available there. They needed to attached the required documents to begin the process of refund. They can also choose to receive the refund in cash if the amount of the refund s P4,000 or less, or they can opt to apply the amount to future electric bills or apply the amount to current unpaid bills or amounts to be paid to Meralco.
The documents needed for the application of refund are:
- Original Meter Deposit Receipt
- Filled out Refund Application Form
- One valid ID with picture and signature
- Original copy of electric bill where you MDR schedule is indicated
Authorized representatives of Registered Customers wil also need to bring one valid ID with piture and signature. If he is authorized to received the Meter Deposit Refund, he will need a letter of authorization from and signed by the Registered Customer, Legal Heir or Successor-in-Interest that states that he can receive the refund. amount. If he is authorized to sign the Refund Applciation Form and also receive the refund amount, a Notarized Special Power of Attorney is likewise required.
Acceptable IDs are Driver’s License, Passport, PRC License, SSS ID, GSIS ID, TIN ID, PhilHeath ID, Senior Citizen ID, Postal ID, Original NBI Clearance, Firearms License, Police Clearance, New Comelec Voter’s ID (Scanned and Printed on Comelec Security Paper) and Credit Card. Photocopies of IDs are needed to be submitted.

Jimmy, it could depend on how much Meralco charged you when you applied for your Meralco installation. In my case, I paid P8,000 something in 2003 for the installation. However I cannot remember the exact amount for meter payment… You might want to visit the nearest Meralco office for this.

Pabllito,according to the Meralco circular, the ERC has ordered Meralco to refund the meter deposit should be implemented in a span of 5 years. So hopefully, you will be notified about your refund between 2008-2011. Medyo matagal nga lang…

i dont remember what for is the payment i made last 1995 when ive got my housing in bulacan..i think ive paid 1800 (lost my receipt)for meralco..if ever i have a refund when it will be..i open your website knowing ill find your schedule..but nothings there

As far as Meralco is concerned, all Meralco consumers will be notified through their SOA regarding the schedule of refund. For the Meralco Deposit FAQ, please check their site: http://www.meralco.com.ph/meter_refund.htm

@ ellen;€ pwede nyo pa rin po makuka mdr nyo kahit nawala na ung original. punta lang po kau sa pinakamalapit na meralco at humingi ng form n DECLARATON OF LOSS at i fill up nyo lang. isasad lang dun na dahil sa tagal e nawala na or dahil sa bagyo etc…

sa kinauukulan, nais ko po itanong sainyo kung paano ko marerefund ang mter deposit ko.kasi po nawala ang original reciept at ang form application ko kasi po nasunugan kami last feb.2003 kaya po nawala po lahat ng yun. nais ko po malaman kung paano ko pa marefund ang MDR ko? gumagalang, margie
