RUN for a worthy cause on Nov. 8 and get a glimpse of the state of the Pasig River in the Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River at the Quirino Grandstand.

The activity, organized by Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP), will allow runners to get close to the river via a nontraditional route that will cross nine of the 13 bridges of the waterway; portions of the race will be run alongside the river itself.

A unique feature of this race is the 42K full marathon which can also be run by a relay team of 20 and 40 people per team. The relay will run the full length of the marathon route divided by 20 points. Each point will be assigned a prominent landmark or bridge along the route.

There are short distance categories of 3k-5k-10k. The age limit is 6 years old and above. The full marathon and its sub categories will be under the technical supervision of Race Director Rudy Biscocho and his team. Water stations will be situated every 2km from starting line to finish line.

Participation fee is P250. Pinoy Ultra Runners will conduct free running clinics for first-time runners. SOME DEFINITIONS

Nominator – A nominator is any Filipino individual, 18 years old of age that would like to nominate a person or a group who has recently done any selfless winning acts in 2009
Nominated – A nominated person or group could be any Filipino individual/s who have recently exhibited selfless acts to help/save other people in need. ie. “I nominate Juan dela Cruz from Marikina City for saving a mother and child stranded on top of a roof during a recent typhoon”
Beneficiary – A beneficiary could be any individual, family, school, community or organization in the Philippines that the Nominated would want Medicol Advance to donate grocery and medicine goods to Facebook’s “Like” Function – All types of posts in Facebook have thumbs up and thumbs down signs underneath it. The thumbs up sign means that any Facebook user can flag the post as something that they personally “Like” which is similar to the concept of a Vote. Facebook then tracks every person who “Likes” a post and counts the total number of “Likes” a post has in real-time. Candice Iyog, CEB spokesman, said, “We are committed to offering the public the most affordable fares coupled with the newest planes. In fact, we have made air travel a viable option for those who would normally travel by bus or ferry. The removal of fuel and insurance surcharges will now allow passengers to easily compare airfare with the fares of buses and ferries.

The airline also cuts its fuel and insurance surcharge for select international routes. CEB’s Manila-Bangkok and Clark-Bangkok one-way surcharges are slashed from $80 to $50 and $80 to $60, respectively.

Moreover, CEB’s Manila-Osaka one-way surcharges are lowered from $105 to $100 and Manila-Hong Kong surcharges are reduced from $45 to $40 per way.

Meralco has begun refunding the meter deposit including interest in compliance with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Resolution No. 8, Series of 2008. All eligible residential customers with small kilowatthour consumption shall be processed first. These are residential consumers who paid the meter deposit required by law from 1987 to 2004. These consumers will be notified in their electric bill of their schedule and where they will be refunded.

Those customers with bigger consumption will follow and then the non-residential customers or those who paid their meter deposit required by law from 1987 to 2006 will be processed.

According to Meralco, only the rightful customer who paid the meter deposit will be reimbursed the principal and the interest the law has set. As soon as the customer is notified through their electric bill, they can proceed to the Business Center specified in their bills and fill out a Refund Application Form available there. They needed to attached the required documents to begin the process of refund. They can also choose to receive the refund in cash if the amount of the refund s P4,000 or less, or they can opt to apply the amount to future electric bills or apply the amount to current unpaid bills or amounts to be paid to Meralco.

The documents needed for the application of refund are:

• Original Meter Deposit Receipt
• Filled out Refund Application Form
• One valid ID with picture and signature
• Original copy of electric bill where you MDR schedule is indicated

Authorized representatives of Registered Customers wil also need to bring one valid ID with piture and signature. If he is authorized to received the Meter Deposit Refund, he will need a letter of authorization from and signed by the Registered Customer, Legal Heir or Successor-in-Interest that states that he can receive the refund. amount. If he is authorized to sign the Refund Applciation Form and also receive the refund amount, a Notarized Special Power of Attorney is likewise required.

Acceptable IDs are Driver’s License, Passport, PRC License, SSS ID, GSIS ID, TIN ID, PhilHeath ID, Senior Citizen ID, Postal ID, Original NBI Clearance, Firearms License, Police Clearance, New Comelec Voter’s ID (Scanned and Printed on Comelec Security Paper) and Credit Card. Photocopies of IDs are needed to be submitted.

People have been asking — when is the next World Pyro Olympics (WPO)? Will it be this December 2007 or maybe January of 2008.

Unfortunately, there will be none this year or next year. La Mancha Productions, the organizing body behind the WPO did not announce anything or any reason why this year’s event will not push thru. There were updates going around though that it was because of the lack of funds and sponsors. Will post an update once this has been finally cleared.

Update 1: There might still be hope. In an interview over at PhilStar.com, it was noted that “The 2008 World Pyro Olympics will be held at the Manila Bay on Feb. 16 (China and Germany), 23 (Japan and Australia), Mar. 1 (Korea and Dubai), 8 (Italy and Venezuela), and 15 (France and the Philippines).”.
