AFTER appearing on With Love Gary Valenciano, one of the best music specials produced by ABS-CBN, which not only aired on the Kapamilya Channel but was also replayed on Studio 23 and globally through The Filipino Channel (TFC), Gary V scores yet another victory as he recently conquered the tough New Zealand market.

Despite the lack of TFC in the country, thousands flocked to the concert, proving the strength of Gary in the overseas market. Backstage a Kiwi native who was part of the security said, “I didn’t know who he was but after watching and listening to him, I’m a fan! He is good!” Gary was surprised when a Malaysian fan Ming Lim (wearing a Gary V T-shirt) together with Filipino wife Hazel, of Sydney flew to Auckland just to watch the concert.  Performing with him was eldest son Paolo Valenciano, who drew screams and cheers from the  3000-strong audience when he sang his father’s hits like “Babalik ka Rin,” “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos,” “What More Can I Say,” and “Hang On.”  The handsome but shy singer/songwriter is currently a member of the rock band Salamin and occasionally does session lead vocals for Rivermaya.

He joined his father and brother music producer/dancer, ASAP ROCKS mainstay Gabriel, in Virginia Beach as they performed in a live full concert at the CBN Grounds last October 1 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 700 Club USA. Gary has repeatedly shared his testimony and sang on the national television show for over 15 years due to his friendship with Pat and Gordon Robertson. Michael Little, CBN president personally met Gary when he arrived after a 30-hour travel schedule. He has shared his miraculous, personal 33-year battle with Type 1 Diabetes nationwide in the United States because he has been hailed by doctors as one of the healthiest diabetics alive having no complications in his body.  His wife, Angeli, has been a member of the Board of CBN Asia and the Operation Blessing Foundation in the Philippines since the NGO’s were established in the early 90’s.

In the mid 90’s Gary has also appeared as the main host for one season of a youth music video show, “One-Cubed,” for 700 Club and taped the series in Virginia Beach, USA.

Recently also, Gary conquered Malaysia as he launched his first Bahasa recording “Ayu,” an adaptation of his self-penned composition, “Fool Till The End.”  Together with DIGI, Muzikon and Maximusic Malaysia, Gary and Philippine home recording label, Universal Records, is slated to release his album in October and he will fly again to Malaysia in November for the official launch in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.  Gary toured television shows like “Hello on Two,”  “Breakfast Club,” “Breakfast Show,” among others and conducted interviews and photo shoots with various media. “This is one open door that I would gladly walk through,”  Gary stated in a recent interview at the Hard Rock Café where he had a very impressive media conference.  In attendance were Richard Voon of Muzikon, Inc., Universal Records Philippines’ Louie Lizardo, DIGI’s marketing boss Pearlie Lim (who presented Gary with a beautiful gift), and his wife Genesis president, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano.

With a 28-year stellar career proven by millions of hits on his musical recordings posted officially or unofficially by fans on Youtube and other sites, Gary V continues to tread on various territories victoriously.  In television, he has been a regular host of the top-rating weekly musical variety show ASAP ROCKS on ABSCBN. The show with over 60 regular co-hosts, looks up to Gary as their “big brother” and his passion for excellence in his craft has proven to be an inspiration to his younger colleagues in the show. He has recently renewed his contract with ASAP ROCKS and one can expect more exciting numbers from his very own RATED PG (Pure Gary) segment.

In recording, he recently released WITH LOVE GARY VALENCIANO, the album, which was a co-production of ABS-CBN and STAR CINEMA, a STAR RECORDS release of his best-loved teleserye/soap opera and movie theme songs such as the recent classical masterpieces “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” and “Where Do I Begin (Love Story).” It topped the charts over-all (both local and foreign releases) and continues to enjoy brisk sales in the market.  From Mondays to Fridays, daily, for six months, Gary V’s haunting voice could be heard on one of the most successful soap operas in television history.  According to one of the series’ lead stars, Amy Austria, “When we would have a hard time emoting in a scene, we would play Gary V’s theme song and we would be motivated to deliver our lines better,” a similar opinion shared by the soap’s lead male, Coco Martin.  STAR RECORDS intends to market the album in the Asian region in 2012. On the Universal Records side of his career, his album REPLAY has reached gold and platinum status.

A new album is in the works with Universal Records locally, celebrating a 25-year partnership with the label. Elements National Singing & Songwriting Camp

ASPIRING singers ages 18 to 25 who are citizens and residents of the Philippines are all invited to apply in 7101 Music Nation’s much awaited and highly anticipated “2nd ELEMENTS National Singing and Songwriting Camp.”

7101 Music Nation is the brainchild of three music aficionados namely its Artistic Director, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab; its Chief Executive Officer, established businessman Julio D. Sy, Jr.; and its Chief Operating Officer, music industry maven Twinky Lagdameo. The goal of the company is to build platforms that will gather Filipino artists and musicians and promote the sharing of ideas and talents to further uplift Filipino musicality and artistry. The ELEMENTS National Songwriting Camp is the group’s pilot project and it should be noted that after successfully hosting the Camp for songwriters last year, a new track has been added this time to include singers.

Recording artist and singer Ebe Dancel who recently released “Dalawang Mukha Ng Pag-ibig,” his maiden full-length album as a solo artist under Warner Music Philippines says that “Elements National Singing and Songwriting Camp” is a once in a lifetime event that every aspiring singer and songwriter should be a part of, “Aspiring singers and songwriters should apply because people like Ryan Cayabyab, Gary Valenciano, and Gary Granada...they want the proverbial torch to burn bright when its passed on to them [the aspiring singers and songwriters].”

Dancel who wrote all 10 tracks of his current CD including its carrier single “Muli” also explains that the camp is an opportunity for aspiring singers and songwriters to bond and learn from the mentors “What makes this camp different from other camps is that campers can get to hang out with Noel Cabangon and Jay Durias for instance and share a table with them, there’s a lot of interaction. They will surely learn a lot from the mentors and it’s really fun!”

The camp is also open to all aspiring songwriters ages 18 to 35 who are citizens and residents of the Philippines.

There are a limited number of slots for each track and a select group of established and highly respected singers and songwriters shall screen and audition the participants for the singing and songwriting slots. A total of 30 singers and 30 songwriters will be chosen to join this year’s Camp which takes place in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental from Nov 6 to 10.

Applicants for the songwriting track must submit an .mp3 of an original composition, lyrics to the uploaded song, and a two-minute video answering the question why they should be accepted to the Camp. The video should also include footage of the song being performed by themselves or with a guest singer.

On the other hand, applicants for the singing track, on the other hand, must submit a video of themselves singing an original Filipino song plus and also a two-minute video answering the question why they should be accepted to the Camp. The song must be performed a capella. No entries with instrumentation or a band will be considered.

The videos must be 5-10mb and in any one of these formats: .mp4, .avi, or .mov. Each applicant can only apply once as either as a singer or as a songwriter. They cannot apply for both tracks.

The five-day camp will include workshops, lectures, talks, one-on-one consultations, group collaborations and presentations, etc. under the tutelage of some of the country’s top Artists including Ryan Cayabyab, Joey Ayala, Gary Valenciano, Jett Pangan, Noel Cabangon, Jim Paredes, Gabby Alipe of Urbandub, Ebe Dancel, Jungee Marcelo, Raimund Marasigan, Gary Granada, Jed Madela, Dulce, Jimmy Antiporda, Angeli Valenciano, and Jay Durias, among many others!

Dancel further explains that in a lot of ways, the camp is contributing to the growth and improvement of the local music industry, “This camp aims to help the local music industry because the mentors are there to help aspiring singers and songwriters to hone their skills because someday the stage will be theirs and the camp wants to help them to get ready for that.”

Yesterday was awesome, I attended the coca-cola caravan event, it was also the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in Araneta cubao. There were so many celebrities coming from all networks, above all there were so many pinoy bloggers.

This is the urban lifestyle : Filipinos gathering together in the spirit of Christmas !

A few days ago Coca-Cola celebrated Christmas to the public, with this year’s Coke Ambassadors Enchong Dee and Kim Chui.
The two stars together with selected celebrities along with the marching band rove around the Araneta Center as the Coca Cola Christmas song played.
While they were enjoying the caravan outside, we’re busy playing some cool games inside the Coca Cola booth. The games were worth playing because the prizes were great. T shirts and Caravan, woohoo it’s really awesome!
It was a memorable because it was my first time to witness a giant Christmas Tree lighting. I will never forget this moment, because I was able to meet a lot of friends and celebrities. Kudos to the organizers! Specially to the PR media contacts.
I will drop by here and stop in front of the giant Christmas Tree every time I will pass Cubao.

First of all I would like to thank the PR Joylyn Sayson for inviting me I just came from araneta coliseum for the Coca-Cola welcomes Christmas by a Tree Lighting event in Araneta. The most enjoying part is the fun games. I played with the people from press and media. One of them said ” Let’s not work instead. Just stay here and play, really cool prizes, don’t mind our boss, what’s important is we are having fun playing and we are winning cool stuffs here !

Christmas songs have started playing in radio stations, malls and even in music videos in different music channels on TV. Santa Claus is indeed coming to town! Merry Christmas !

On October 16 and 30 (both Saturdays), Asia’s premiere vocal group, The CompanY, celebrates its 25th anniversary with a concert performance entitled CO.25 at the Music Museum (Greenhills) at 8:30p.m.

The last quarter of a century has been productive for The CompanY, having been blessed with 19 studio albums, 39 music industry awards (Awit, Katha, Catholic Mass Media), 2 video releases, 3 solo television specials, national and international vocal workshops, and countless concert tours both in the Philippines and abroad.

More than just a retrospective, CO.25 showcases the virtuosity and versatility of singers: Sweet Plantado, Annie Quintos, Cecile Bautista, Jay Marquez and Moy Ortiz.

This anniversary concert is divided into five acts that blend various art forms from the worlds of music, dance, photography, film, video art, performance art, theater and fashion. The show is an unapologetic blend of high art with lowbrow sensibilities, the complex with the simple, the poignant with the ridiculous and the esoteric with the commercial.

From jazz to classical, from Broadway to folk music, from pop to doo-wop, from acoustic to electronica, from world music to Original Pilipino Music (OPM), from a cappella to symphonic – The CompanY’s repertoire for Co.25 runs the breadth and width of vocal music in its various genres.

Not to be missed are The CompanY’s production numbers with special guests, comedian/writer/director Jon Santos and Eileen Sison of the Brazilian band, Guarana. Beth Martin is the musical director. The show was conceptualized, written and directed by The CompanY’s artistic director, Moy Ortiz, alongside two-time Palanca Awardee, Floy Quintos.

Wardrobe and costumes were designed and executed by Danilo Franco, Joey Samson and Odelon Simpao. Jerome Chang does hair and make up. Jewelry pieces are by Arnel Papa. Lighting Designer is Dong Calingacion. Sound Engineer is Jerry Guanino.

Dance sequences were choreographed by Dianne Fabros Sulit of ACTS Dance and Arts Academy with Jay Marquez and Sweet Plantado. Band arrangements were done by Beth Martin, JD Villanueva, Tots Tolentino, Ria Villena Osorio, Michael Guevarra, Jesse Lucas and Moy Ortiz.
