Making the Christmas season a brighter and merrier event for Filipino children is what Jollibee, the country’s biggest fast-food chain, has long been advocating through its Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko campaign. This year, the continued support of Aga Muhlach, regular Jollibee customers and the Jolly Toy Scouts will help make it a bigger, grander display of giving and sharing with the 16th Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko.

The country’s longest-running toy and book donation drive continues its legacy of bringing holiday cheer to less fortunate children as it kicked-off recently at the One Esplanade in Pasay City. Aiming to not just bring in more toys and books, but to build more classrooms as well, the 16th Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko hopes to rally everyone to pitch in and let happiness shine this Christmas.

Be a Jolly Toy Scout
Last year, Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko mobilized groups of students from 52 schools and employees from 25 companies collectively known as the Jolly Toy Scouts. With over 15,000 Jolly Toy Scouts gathering as much as 245,000 toys and books and Jollibee matching every donation, more children had a truly special Christmas. Through the years, the campaign has brought cheer to thousands of children through the magic of more than 1.5 million toys and books.

“We would like to invite everyone to participate in the many initiatives of Maaga
ang Pasko,” said Albert Cuadrante, Jollibee VP for Marketing. “We acknowledge
that the success of this campaign is a team effort. And with more Jolly
Toy Scouts joining, just imagine how many more faces will light up with
joy, how many hearts will be touched through the spirit of giving. Being a Jolly Toy Scout is the simplest, most fun way to help make Christmas a brighter occasion for underprivileged children. Also, we have made it easier for kind-hearted citizens to reach out and help by providing many ways to contribute to our cause.”

The Jolly Toy Scouts have important tasks to carry out. The first is to knock on people’s hearts and collect toys and books, and the second one is to make sure that the donated goods will be as good as new by cleaning and packing them up. By simply fulfilling these duties, more children will have reasons to smile this Christmas.

Different ways to help
Can’t make time to volunteer as a Jolly Toy Scout? Just visit any of the 718 Jollibee stores nationwide and drop your toy and book donations at the Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko boxes. Or bring home the cute Jollibee and Friends dolls! These adorable mini-versions of Jollibee, Popo, Yum, Hetty and Twirlie are perfect gifts for kids and kids-at-heart. More importantly, Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko, in cooperation with the Jollibee Foundation and Jollibee Franchisees Association, has partnered with the Department of Education to help build more classrooms. Part of every purchase of the Jollibee and Friends dolls will help pave the way for more children to have a place where they can enrich their young minds.

And to help make the campaign bigger, Jollibee will once again match every toy and book donated with a Jollibee toy. This will effectively double the total number of donations, and the number of kids made happier as well.

Jason Petrie grew up in Charlotte, NC, always sketching and doodling as a kid. He started drawing shoes in 7th grade science class, after seeing his first pair of Nike Air Trainer 3’s. From that moment he knew he wanted to design shoes for Nike and he has been dreaming up shoes in one form or another ever since. He sold his GI Joe collection to buy his first pair of Nikes that summer and he is still hunting down the right shoe to fill a slot in his collection.  After high school he moved to Raleigh, NC to attend North Carolina State University. Jason studied textile technology and industrial design, graduating in 1998.

In 2000-2001 while in the graduate ID program at NC State he began posting renderings of his designs online at niketalk.com. He used the online forums to gather feedback and improve his skill level. From those posts he was hired at Fila in Montebelluna, Italy. He jumped at the chance to move to Europe and design shoes for an international brand. He spent a little more than 2 years with Fila working in Italy and Boston, before fulfilling his dream and coming to Nike to create shoes for Nike Basketball in 2003.

Jason fondly remembers his first day at Nike. Favorite memories include meeting designers he had revered for years, staring at crazy samples, and seeing the Nike campus for the first time. As part of the Nike Basketball design team, Jason has worked on the Nike Air Max LeBron VII and VII PS, Air Max STAT 1, Zoom Sharkley, Zoom FP, Zoom Flightclub, Zoom Alpholution, Huarache 08, Flight Windmill, Skyposite, Power Max, Uptempo Speed, and Flight Banger, among others. One of his proudest moments was seeing his first Nike shoe on the NBA court.

Jason not only designs shoes, he collects them. He also plays basketball and is an avid sports fan. Jason lives in Northwest Portland, which is convenient because he likes to spend time at the Oregon coast. Jason also enjoys drawing in his spare time, as well as travel.

A look into Jason’s Design Process:

“My design process isn’t set in stone, but I am always trying to find what Ken Link calls the “truth” in the shoe. Usually I first look to identify the problem we need to solve and who we are solving it for. Once that is established my inspiration can come from anywhere, but it most often comes from the game and the culture around it. Having grown up a fan of basketball, as well as basketball and sneaker culture, I use that history combined with the game theater to fuel my creative process. With that as a foundation I then look to whatever the inspiration point may be for that particular project. That can be anything from athlete insight, an amazing moment in the game, a great movie, a beautiful car, or even just an afternoon on the court with friends talking smack. The love and beauty of the game is an endless source of inspiration for me, and when you add Nike’s science and technical prowess to that, you get this amazing blend of imagination and technology. To me, finding that “truth” is using that blend of imagination and technology to solve your problem, and using that solution to enable athletes to continue to push their boundaries and unlock pieces of the game that we haven’t ever seen before.”

The tongue-back label is a nod to bespoke off court attire, and highlights the crafted nature of the LEBRON 8 made specifically for Mr. LeBron James. The numbers 828 represent the 82 regular season games and the 28 playoff games.

The dual density molded internal collar foam provides elevated lockdown and comfort.

The height differential between the collar and heel has increased, which results in better lock down and more Achilles flexion.

The structural TPU injected frame around Flywire technology, delivers ergonomic zonally-designed support, for lightweight lockdown only where needed.

The Swoosh design was moved back on the LEBRON 8 towards the rear of the shoe, ending on unique spoiler loop, to symbolize LeBron’s speed on court.

Midsole compression molded Phylon interface works in concert with Max Air 360 cushioning to help guide through the footstrike and further enhance the ride.

Max Air 360 unit was designed for ultimate cushioning and impact protection.

The alternating formation of the laces eye row was created for better fit, with a top eyelet to provide enhanced lockdown through dual pull design, shaped like the number 8.

The fully integrated, seamless mesh innersleeve provides breathability and comfort.

Outsole geometry combined with X Flex design decouples the heel to displace force and pressure.
The Lebron 8 will be available in November 1, 2010 in the Nike park outlets retailing for P7,495.

Today we celebrate the opening of our 3rd Philippine International Motor Show, the country’s flagship auto show.

Change, as they say, is in the air. And the Philippine auto industry is at the verge of major changes. For the first time, auto sales could surpass the highest sales ever achieved in 1996 of 162,000 units. We are growing at a rate of 37% so far. High consumer and business confidence continues. And the second half of the year is looking pretty good.

Global observers echo the same bullish sentiment. The economic growth forecast has been raised to 5.5%. Money sent home by OFWs is hitting a record high, at $18 billion. Meanwhile, banks continue to aggressively lend, giving auto buyers easy access to funds, to finance their purchases.

The momentum has turned positive, with expectations that our President Aquino can steer the economy in the right direction.

The local auto industry has shown remarkable resiliency. Despite the recent global recession, and the burden of auto smuggling, we have achieved growth year after year. Resilience, however, should not be taken for granted. Without smuggling, the growth could have been stronger; the increase in sales higher, and job creation, greater.

The auto industry is one of the Philippines’ few remaining major industries. What we have in common with our ASEAN neighbors, is the prohibition of imported used vehicles. Sadly, what sets us apart is the lack of the strict implementation of that ban. Without it, the auto industry cannot achieve its full potential.

A stop to smuggling is a green light to a bigger domestic auto market which in turn is a go for immediate job creation.

This then is our HOPE and a wish for a more vibrant auto industry, a bigger auto market, and for more employment.

Change is in the air. A brighter future for the auto industry, for its autoworkers, and for the economy can become a reality.

We are thankful that part of the President’s top priority includes job creation and a firm stand against all forms of corruption, including smuggling. As the President says, “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap.”

The timing could not have been better. Global demand is growing and the Philippines has an advantage. We can offer our underutilized assembly plants to serve both domestic and regional export needs. We have a growing domestic market with over 90 million car-loving Filipinos—with much room to expand, for both assemblers and distributors alike.

Asia is the auto market with the greatest potential. It is already the biggest—and the most profitable market in the world.

We have the capacity. We have the capability. We have the skills and engineering knowhow. And now, we have the right environment.

With the President’s clear direction of making the Philippines a predictable and consistent place for investments, things will only get better from here on. For the economy, for our workers, for the auto industry.

HOPE can finally be realized.

It is against this backdrop that we celebrate the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show, with our theme, “DRIVE THE GREEN ROAD. ”

We aim to use the motor show as a platform to build an eco-driven community. Here, you will find exciting new models, the latest in green technology, alternative solutions to include electric vehicles, hybrids, clean-burning diesel-powered vehicles, as well as advanced fuel-efficient gas engines.
