2nd World Pyro Olympics (2006)

More stories here:

Just got an email from the events organizer of the World Pyro Olympics that they will be doing the second installation of the event on December this year.

Pictures of World Pyro Olympics

With hundreds of thousands of event attendees and viewed by over a million spectators around Metro Manila, the 1st World Pyro Olympics was among the largest events in the Philippines for the year 2005.

Once again, La Mancha Pyro Productions Inc. will stage the 2nd World Pyro Olympics (2006) from 26 to 30 December 2006.

The 2nd World Pyro Olympics (2006) will bring to the Philippines prestigious pyrotechnic companies from around the world to participate in the most intense international fireworks competition. Hosting nine countries from five continents, the World Pyro Olympics is now the premier international pyrotechnic competition in the world.

The five-day event shall include various cultural presentations, trade and product displays, variety shows, family activities, and festive entertainment to complement the nightly pyrotechnic displays.

The World Pyro Olympics is an annual tourism calendar event supported by the Department of Tourism and foreign embassies of the participating countries.

World Pyro Olympics 2006

Last year’s Pyro Olympics was a really big hit and surely, the upcoming one will be much better — hopefully, without the traffic.

i saw the schedule link in the Event Program of the WPO website and it really says it’s going to be on December 29, 30, and Jan. 5, 6, 7. Maybe they have not updated their website?

picO » Dec 08, 2006 at 8:31 am

these guys are lousy organizers… beware!
if you go to http://www.worldpyroolympics.com/

you’ll find that the schedule shows fireworks competition is Jan 5 to 13… which is which? hmmmmm…. beats me.

picO » Dec 08, 2006 at 8:36 am

last year… traffic and parking was a nightmare… i think the organizers of this show are the same ones that did wowahwee… no planning and coordination at all.

and set your expectations right… there’s no musical underscoring… just plain paputok…

nice to see… but not that great.

jayjay » Dec 06, 2006 at 6:49 am

wala talagang music. pag may music na kasama i think thats called pyro musical.. panonoorin ko talaga to lalo n ngaun kasali pa rin australia pati spain kasali. magaling daw ang spain pag dating s fireworks.. am looking forward to the 2nd world pyro olympics.. see ya’ll!!!

vander » Dec 08, 2006 at 8:42 am

alam ko na ang results paglagyan ng music yan! uhhm hindi siya mgiging synchronized properly! because the setting is so far from the audience so what we will hear is just the echo of the music and the fireworks this will create a lot of delays tapos magiging pagit na ung hinandang piromusical ng firm sayang naman! eto din ang nangyari sa portugal sa cannes pyrotechnique ung mga song nila na on the beat ang synchronization ay nawala kasi parang dalawa ung music dahil sa echo kaya mapangit kung sa barge lang ang piromusical pero if it in another place ok anf piromusical! uhm im expecting a lot from usa kasi sila ang champion this year ng l’international des feux loto-quebec at un ang biggest pyromusical competition sa buong mundo! hehehe!

vander » Dec 08, 2006 at 8:44 am

kung mahilig ka talaga sa pyrotechnics walang kaso anf traffic and organizing problems because you went there to see the freworks pero kung pumupunta ka doon para lang makita ang event at masabing nka punta ka doon un ang mga taong pinapansin pati ang traffic! peace out peeps!

quentintarantado » Dec 02, 2006 at 2:36 am

I visited their website, their bandwidth limit was exceeded so I can’t see anything. WHAT is their contact number please? I would like to call their offices.

jayjay » Dec 11, 2006 at 11:45 pm

tama ka vander.. its not advisable na lagyan ng music and wpo dahil hindi magiging synchronize ung music and fireworks dahil malayo ung barge sa audience.. ako i expect a lot from australia na champion last year and also spain….

excited na ko!

vander » Dec 01, 2006 at 1:09 pm

me too wohoo spain, mga masters ng pyrotechnics yan! tapos ang melrose laki din expectations ko sa kanila kasi nanalo sila sa pinakamalaking pyromusical competition sa buong mundo which is l’international des feux loto-quebec, tapos ang australia laki din ng expectations ko dahil last year sila ang champion at nanginig ako after ng show nila last year! hindi ako nagiiexpect ng malaki sa denmark at poland! sa germany naman laki expectations ko kasi lagi silang nanalo dti sa l’international des feux loto-quebec kaya un! uhm canada hindi ako familiar sa firm na pyro studios! un firm ng u.a.e dti ay preho lang doon sa poland tpos ung uk nman 1st place sila sa welsh fireworks competition 2001 medyo tgal na un pero baka ok ang spain naman ay nanalo ng 2nd and 3rd places tarragonna fireworks festival isa sa pinaka malalaking fireworks competition! ung china most of the consumer cakes sa america ay galing sa kanila saka last year medyo ok di ang show nila but not okay for being the champions! so un lang ang masasabi ko tungkol sa mga firms na sasali!

vander » Dec 01, 2006 at 1:10 pm

favorite ko ang spain, mga masters ng pyrotechnics yan! tapos ang melrose laki din expectations ko sa kanila kasi nanalo sila sa pinakamalaking pyromusical competition sa buong mundo which is l’international des feux loto-quebec, tapos ang australia laki din ng expectations ko dahil last year sila ang champion at nanginig ako after ng show nila last year! hindi ako nagiiexpect ng malaki sa denmark at poland! sa germany naman laki expectations ko kasi lagi silang nanalo dti sa l’international des feux loto-quebec kaya un! uhm canada hindi ako familiar sa firm na pyro studios! un firm ng u.a.e dti ay preho lang doon sa poland tpos ung uk nman 1st place sila sa welsh fireworks competition 2001 medyo tgal na un pero baka ok ang spain naman ay nanalo ng 2nd and 3rd places tarragonna fireworks festival isa sa pinaka malalaking fireworks competition! ung china most of the consumer cakes sa america ay galing sa kanila saka last year medyo ok di ang show nila but not okay for being the champions! so un lang ang masasabi ko tungkol sa mga firms na sasali!

Just came from the SM Mall of Asia to see the New Countdown pyromusical presentation that REPLACED La Mancha’s “olympics”… If you weren’t there, boy did you miss something.

This pyrotechnic show by STARMAKER, I swear, was so much better than the “Pyro Olympics” last year.

Fireworks came with synchronized music. Great show! More power to Starmaker.

And guess what? Didn’t cost P375- IT WAS FREE!!!

vander » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:06 am

pero maski sila naginvent hidi sila artistic enough to use their works properly kaya sila minsan natatalo it all depends on the fireworks display maker!

laojoanna » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:56 pm

vander angaling mo!!!! i hope youre not gay. it’s true!!! nakakapanginig talaga!!! exactly, a true mark of a fireworx addict!!! at hindi ka kj. hindi tulad ng iba diyan. at andami mung alam pero simple ka lang. antagal kudin inantay yang pyoolympics nayan, yan anag rewaRD KO sa sarili ko. and the biggest thing yet to happen to me!!!! annadmi mu talagang alam at nakkikipagaway k pa talaga!!! you speak for all the fireworks addict in the whole world. ako din mangagaling pa sa malayo para mapanuod ku yan. sana pag andun ka na, maglagay ka ng “vander” sa nuo mo para makita kita, hehehe joke lang. all sysytems go na sa pyroolympics!!!! c dollie anne carvajal ng Star mali ang inanounce na date, nainis aklo kasi alam natin ang totoo.

anyway angaling mu talaga. siguro idedevote morin ang buong buhay mo sa fireworks. hahahha!!!

Kikku » Jan 06, 2007 at 6:51 am

Already have the tickets for the 5 days. Treat ng kaibigan ko sa kin. Bayad kasi treat ko sa kanya last time. Hehe…And my family might be joining me on the final 2 days. Sana ma appreciate ng mga kids kong kapatid. See you all there guys. I’ll be bringing my cam. Nasira kasi SLR ko last year, and now i finally have a semi pro digicam. But I’m still torn between using video or just taking photos. For AUS, siguro video na lang then photos for the others.

vander » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:51 pm

waaa mamaya na ang wpo!

vander » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:56 am

wow ganda ng display ng poland kabilib! wow! talaga kaso la clang nautical effects! australia’s finale i think was beaten by poland’s ok sana ang sa australia kaso the intervals was too long so medyo mlki ang effect niya! just cme back form wpo!

redtab » Jan 04, 2007 at 4:34 am

Fantastic show! both countries are excellent. I cant decide who’s better between the two and there’s still more to come in the next days. I like australia’s fireworks display but the finale poland definitely had it. :)

Traffic is horrible after the show. Tip if you have your own transportation park it at roxas blvd service road its much better you may require to walk but its ok temprature is not bad and you will enjoy it there’s a lot of people walking and its a good exercise.

tenten » Jan 10, 2007 at 10:39 am

hi guys. i watched the pyrolympics last night. it was very very exciting. sumobra lng yata expectations ko sa australia kaya medyo di ako masyado nagandahan. i was kinda hoping na mas maganda ang papakita nila last night bec cla yung defemding chapmion. but anyway m looking forward to see more beautiful display tonight. Mas ok ang finale ng poland. kaya lng masyadong malayo from our place nasa end corner na ng building ang location nila. di ba pwedeng parehong location ang fireworks yung australia nsa middle part ng bldg while yung poland nasa dulo. bakit???

vander » Jan 11, 2007 at 11:15 am

uhm ok tlgng dpt siguro doon sa end ng color and position kasi andoon un mga special viewing area but then i think australia’s show was showed in the middle because they had so much nautical effects/water fireworks kaya un! that’s just a guess though but i loved both shows! australia had a really cool show but the intervals was too long they had soo much nice effects but they didnt have the five pointed star pattern shells ad the flower shells they showed last year but their nautical effects just covered it up! poland’s show was lacking of effects and color they only used orange, green, red, blue, and their favorite gold! hehe! their segments was quite repetitous but their big finale just made up for those mistakes! mahihirap ang judges niyan we still have canada, uk, germany, usa, and my personal favorite spain on line! hehehehe ganda ng competition ngayon grabe!

vander » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:25 am

wow the winner will be so unpredictable! hindi ako makadecide kung sino ang winner!! grabi laki shells ng spain at ung photoflashes na salutes nila ay sobrang ganda at ung rings to crossettes nila at sa america naman ganda ng whistling fish nila! hehehe!

Yayan » Jan 10, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Hey! I’ve already told about this. But what are the schedules for the competition? Pls include the date, time and countries who will participate. Thanx!

vander » Jan 05, 2007 at 5:53 pm

uhm on friday january 12 denmark’s show will present at 8 and canadas will be at 9oclockpm and january 13 china will present at 8 and the philippines will present at 9 for the finale! Wow germany’s show was really nice and they used the whole sky its like there use of space is not limited! but uk’s show is probably the sure winner as of now!

anne » Jan 11, 2007 at 11:24 pm

yah, i got a chance to watch the pyro olympics and it was really great..imagine, it created a traffic last jan . 6..spain is a lot better that usa…thanks for my husband for forcing to join him and watch the spectacular event of the year…

Annski » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:02 am

It was my first time to see the show and it was really great! UK is good but my bet is Germany! Despite the massive traffic after the show, it was all fun and worth watching!

catherine ramos » Jan 12, 2007 at 12:10 am

i wanna win this ticket because it’s been 4 days now my 7 yrs., old son asked me and still asking me to go and see the pyro olympics. im worried because once i saw him with his friends at the top(roof) of our neighbor’s jeepney to see those beautiful fireworks.thanks a lot. God bless.

redtab » Jan 02, 2007 at 2:17 am

Hows UK and germanys performance. Im so sad i failed to watch the show last sunday. I was suppose to complete the entire competition. Are they better compare to saturday’s performance of US and spain? any updates? vander can you update and tell me what happened last sunday? who’s better?

Anyways saturday show is the best so far for me. Vander all your predictions towards spain is correct they are magnificent i expected too much and it did not fail me.

Looking towards friday and the final performance on saturday!

kits 21 » Jan 03, 2007 at 3:07 am

hi to all the organizers and participants.. congrats to all of you you’ve done a great work to make thousands of people happy like me who is a fireworks lover, since the 1st pyro i was there to video all of the participant til now, 6 countries and i got them all.. i will keep and watch it all over again, very nice , amazing and magnificent displays of fireworks.. i love germany and uk but still have to watch the 3 remainig participants, for now i bet for germany and uk.. and still waiting to watch the 3 to compete plus our own country to show thier beautiful fireworks, (like last year). goodluck to all, and a great show on earth. wow, galing ng mga organizers.

well u.k.’s display is my bet last sunday but china’s display was just amazing! i tihnk china could be the winner! i dunno the winner yet! too bad i can’t go to the prime viewing area to listen for the announcement! U.k. display was just grand if you saw australia’s show remove the intervals and add some effects and remove some and you have u.k.’s displays they had lots of nautical effect A.K.A water fireworks! their finale was just awesome! they had lots of mines from plain mines to angle mines! then they had soo much nice colors they had some nautical crossettes! u know those ones that gets split into 4 stars? and then germany’s display was just big! they used most of the space they had as i said before their use of space is not limited to just one line their fireworks was everywhere! i think some of them was angled in 10 to 50degrees it was really awesome how they used the space provided!

vander » Jan 08, 2007 at 8:59 am

china’s display i think was the best they had some of the most original fireworks i’ve seen! they had soo much shell of shells then they also had soo mjuch nice colors and what a long finale! they just didn’t have nautical effects! almost every color in their display was color changing! their show was very surprising compared to their show last year! that’s a proof that this year’s competition was more intense! i can’t predict the champion! i hope someone can pose here won! i really want to know! philippines’s display was the most unexpected display ever! it was just intense and it had soo much Faux finales! from start to begining! it was very nice to see that the philippines’ went over my expectations! they had nicce japanese shells in the first part u know theose willows that had like 4 petals or colors in the middle? their finale was just big, loud and long nothing can beat that show! probably the start of next year’s competition will be something like that!! hehehe!! grabi they went soo much further than my expectations!! sana mag announce na sila kung kelan ung next year na competition! sana december 29 30 then jkanuary 5 6 7 para wala pa akong pasok!! hehe! sayang hindi ko napanood ang canada at denmark sabi nila hindi dawmaganda sa denmark ung una lang daw ung maganda! by the way canada’s show was done by mr. patrice guy according to one of the fireworks sites! he made a show in montreal that won a bronxe jupiter in montreal firewoks 2003! it’s really a pity for me that i was not able to go to canada’s display! sana may makapagbigay sakin ng full videos ng lahat ng shows! very best idea make rules time!…

wakanga » Jan 08, 2007 at 8:32 pm

sino pala winner?….

@ vander,

yes patrice guy is the one who arranges the show for canada…he came from his former company PYROMAGIC INC..from HK…they are also the one who did the fireworks show for the DOHA ASIAN GAMES….sana bumalik siya dito sa pinas next year para naman ma-meet ko siya…sabi niya kasi he needed some help to setup for the fireworks…try mo kaya siya i-message sa montreal forum vander…malay mo we could share some inputs sa design ng shows nila…salutes (5″ shells and willows 6″ and 8″ on the loose plus gold palm for finales (12″,16″ and 24″ shells)…with nautical shells in flights…sarap siguro tignan….ang alam ko hindi yata sila gumamit ng 24″ shells ngayon…hanggang 16″ shells lang…maganda tignan yun kahit apat lang na multi-breaks…=)

“Just came from the SM Mall of Asia to see the New Countdown pyromusical presentation that REPLACED La Mancha’s “olympics”… If you weren’t there, boy did you miss something.

This pyrotechnic show by STARMAKER, I swear, was so much better than the “Pyro Olympics” last year.

Fireworks came with synchronized music. Great show! More power to Starmaker.

And guess what? Didn’t cost P375- IT WAS FREE!!!

picO ”

i just want to quote this one…i also do loved how starmaker do their shows…pero if your into the details of a pyromusical show..makikita mong hindi ganung kaganda ang choreography nila…mahilig sila sa “shocking-effect-color-with-matching-music”…don’t you know that mas madali gumawa ng pyro-musical show than plain pyro/fireworks stuff? dahil meron kang music to fill in those empty space of time intervals in the sky…unlike sa plain pyro show…mahahalata kasi iisa lang attention ng tao…i suggest you watch more videos of pyromusical displays para makita mo ang ibig ko sabihin….actually FYI tinalo ng isang pyro firm (Six J Fireworks/Platinum) sa “PASIKLABAN SA BULACAN 2006″ ang STARMAKER kahit maganda ang equipment nila…my two cents

vander » Jan 05, 2007 at 5:03 pm

wow pyromagic was a great firm! their again competing this year in montreal but with another designer cause mr. patrice guy went somewhere else! hehe! oh the firework in mall of asia during the new year was great but needs more improvement plus i think they should make it more than the cake effects thing that they regularyly why not try sumthing that is more synchronized? rather than cake by cake? o fortuna is such a great song but they made it look so plain! they could have used their nice equipments better! and the bongon song is such a nice song also but they just kept firing and firing stuff! but thats the only song where i can say that the snychro was quite tight but in anything else it was more atmospheric than tight synchro! U.K. really did an amazing job! go u.k.! they were really in contention for the prize you can see it with their really nice display! australia’s display was also fantastic but their intervals killed them! sana mister patrice guy comes back next year with a better display that could win hehe! oh btw most of the shells used looked the same i wonder why! anyone knows anything about this issue? hehe!
