eBay Fashion Challenge 2008
Three pairs of students from the University of the Philippines (UP) walked away with more than PhP 140,000 worth of prizes at the finals of eBay.ph Fashion Challenge 2008 at Fiamma Bar, Makati on 18 September. Close to 150,000 votes were received from 11 – 17 September via the contest microsite at www.ebay.ph/fashionchallenge2008, which contributed to the students’ final score.
To add to the excitement, eBay.ph style ambassador Jolina Magdangal was also present as a judge and performed some of her latest hits alongside popular local rock band Moonstar 88. Other prominent judges for the competition included Shu Uemura’s Product Manager Michelle Fernandez, fashion consultant Olen Juarez-Lim, Dean of the UP College of Mass Communications Dr. Elena Pernia and eBay’s Director of Marketing and Strategy Oliver Rippel. The event was hosted by Robi Joseph of 99.5 Hit FM and attended by the contestants’ many supporters, VIP guests as well as the eBay.ph community, of which the first 100 registered members were entitled to a free eBay goodie bag and special cocktail.
As part of the fashion challenge, 8 pairs were shortlisted from 100 entries to shop on eBay.ph, the top online shopping destination in the Philippines, with a budget of PhP 5,000 in GCash and according to assigned themes. The stylish pairs then showcased their eBay fashion finds via a glamourous fashion show to compete for top prizes.
Stylist Yannie Medina and model Glynel Lectura, both clothing technology students from the College of Home Economics, impressed the judges so much with their interpretation of the “Androgynous” look that they received the top prize. In second place were film students from the College of Mass Communications, stylist Rikka Sotto and model Nicole Alcala, who re-created the “New Bohemian” look with a modern twist. The third place went to stylist Tracy Dizon and model Rosan Katlea Reodica from the College of Home Economics, who brightened the “Preppy” look with candy colours.
The top 3 winners walked away with attractive cash prizes; with the top three prizes being PhP 15,000, PhP 10,000 and PhP 7,000 respectively. Other prizes for the winners include Shu Uemura make-up workshops and products worth more than PhP 100,000. As an added bonus, the 8 pairs were able to keep their eBay outfit which was purchased as part of the contest.
