GARY Valenciano closes 2011 with his pure energy as he frontlines Eastwood City’s countdown to 2012 on Dec. 31 (Saturday) in a grand musical event that will happen at Eastwood Mall Open Park.

2011 proved to be a very fruitful and blessed year for Gary V as he scored numerous victories both here and abroad.

For the past year, Gary V has once again conquered the hearts of his fans around the world in his successful trips to Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, USA, and Canada. It should be noted that Gary is the only Filipino artist along with sons Paolo and Gabriel – Paolo a rising singer (tapped to frontline Rivermaya in select concerts this year) and Gab being an award-winning dancer and record producer – who performed in the 50th anniversary live concert of CBN in Virginia Beach, USA.

Here in the Philippines, it can be recalled that Gary opened the year with a record breaking concert to launch his new fragrance line with Aficionado in “1@11″ with Charice Pempengco, performing to a mammoth 60,000 crowd.

Gary’s CD “Replay” under Universal Records was awarded a Platinum Record Award for its outstanding sales while his “With Love, Gary Valenciano” CD under Star Records – a compilation of the movie and teleserye theme songs he performed and recorded over the years – has currently reached Gold status.

Aside from inspiring the nation every week and leading the party on “ASAP Rocks,” he had a TV special which marked his 28th anniversary in the business. The special is a spin-off of his successful “With Love” CD and it was directed by Johnny Manahan. “With Love, Gary Valenciano” had such positive feedback that ABS-CBN replayed in on MYX five times.

From his much talked about and stirring rendition of the theme song of the hit soap “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” Gary was once again chosen to perform the theme song of the upcoming soap “Walang Hanggan.”

Another notable milestone that happened this year is the recent alliance that Gary V forged with M Lhuillier.

He was also honored by Anak TV Seal as he was awarded its coveted Hall of Fame Award for consistently landing on the Top Five slots of the child-friendly television personality survey for the last seven years. Gary capped his humanitarian activities for the year with UNICEF in their recent trip to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to reach out to the victims of typhoon Sendong.

The New Year’s countdown in Eastwood culminates Gary’s artistic odyssey for 2011. The show kicks off at 6p.m. with performances by The Dawn, Amber Davis, Urbanation, Philippine All-Stars, and Billy Crawford. The main event features Gary with Paolo Valenciano, Adlib Dancers and Gabriel Valenciano, with Mon Faustino as Gary’s Musical Director.

Fans and music aficionados can look forward to an unforgettable evening of pure energy with Gary V as he dishes out his greatest hits culled from his catalogue of multi-platinum albums as well as some of today’s hottest chart-toppers, and homegrown favorites while they all party and welcome the arrival of the New Year!

Nikon Launches V1 and J1 Camera

Are you the type of person who always wanted to take some pictures and at the same time want to capture every moment in a video?

Recently, Nikon and Electroworld launched Nikon 1 system with their sleek J1 and V1 camera.

J1 small sensor mirrorless camera ismore compact, less expensive model in the line up and, like the V1, features Hybrid autofocus (combining phase detection and contrast detection AF) that allows the camera to shoot at up to 10 frames-per-second with autofocus. The J1 has only an electronic shutter, limiting sync speed to 1/60th of a second but allowing shutter speeds of up to 1/16000th of a second. It’s built around a 1″ type (13.2mm x 8.8mm) 10MP CMOS sensor, giving a 2.7x crop, which Nikon is calling ‘CX’ format. Like the V1, it can shoot 1080i60 video. The J1 kit with 10-30mm (27-81mm equiv). It’s fastest and easy to use.

One of the feature in J1 that I really like is Motion Snapshot. With Motion Snapshot, there’s a new approach to capturing images that will dramatically alter the way we perceive digital photography. By selecting the Motion Snapshot icon from the Mode Dial at the back of the camera, consumers can capture fleeting moments with staggering depth and emotion like never before. The result unites a frozen still image with a slow-motion movement set to a built-in audio soundtrack to create a portrayal of an occurrence with maximum impact. With Motion Snapshot, users are now able to relive memories in stunning detail, as real movement and depth are included in the image. Motion Snapshot provides a way to once again experience someone’s hair flowing in the breeze or relaxing scenes like waves crashing or rustling leaves that evoke an emotional response.

With its interchangeable lenses that features new technologies aimed at creating better pictures, easier. Nikon’s new Smart Photo Selector feature strives to deliver a perfect image every time. When a “can’t miss” photo opportunity arises, users can switch to the Smart Photo Selector mode which uses the camera’s pre-cache to start shooting and storing images. All of these images are analyzed within the camera, and the best photo is selected based on a number of factors including exposure, focus and advanced facial recognition. While the camera suggests the best image, five frames are recorded, providing the user a choice of their favorite photo. What’s more, J1 also includes favorite core Nikon technologies, such as Active D-lighting, Auto Scene Selector and Picture Controls.

V1 is enthusiast small sensor mirrorless camera. Built around what the company is calling a ‘CX’ format 10MP CMOS sensors, the cameras is part of the company’s new Nikon 1 line. The V1 is intended as the higher-end model in the lineup and features magnesium alloy construction and a 1.4M dot electronic viewfinder. It also has an accessory port allowing the connection of the SB-N5 mini speedlight or GP-N100 GPS unit. Unlike the J1, it can switch between mechanical and electronic shutter. In common with the J1, in can shoot 1080i60 or 1080p30 video and combines phase detection and contrast detection autofocus, in movie shooting or 10fps continuous bursts. Apple Marks 100 Million Mac App Store Download

Apple on Monday announced that customers have downloaded apps from the Mac App Store more than 100 million times.

The Mac App Store opened for business just eleven months ago with more than 1000 apps, inspired by the tremendous success of the iOS App Store that preceded it. That first App Store now boasts more than half a million apps;

Apple is less specific on the size of the Mac App Store, saying only that it offers “thousands of free and paid apps.” The contrast between the stores’ volume is clear—the iOS App Store achieved 1.5 billion downloads in its first year.
Based on the 100 million downloads, Apple claims that the Mac App Store has become the world’s largest and fasting growing PC software store. In its press release announcing the milestone, Apple includes Mac App Store praise from developers like Autodesk, Pixelmator, and algoriddim.
Late last week, Apple revealed what it considers to be the best Mac App Store apps of 2011.
Buoyed by both the Mac App Store’s success and its increasing focus on security, Apple informed developers earlier this year about stricter sandboxing requirements coming to the store in March 2012; some developers remain wary about the coming change. One thing’s certain, though: If the Mac App Store continues to boast such impressive download numbers, it will remain an exceedingly important part of the Mac software ecosystem.

Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited’s 13 official housemates were finally revealed last night (October 29), but the biggest shock was the new look of the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house.

Completely different from previous seasons, the housemates entered a PBB house reminiscent of slum settlements. According to Kuya, they will have to live like the 15 million Filipinos living in shanties and in very poor conditions.

There is Jaz Manabat, the Sensual Siren of QC, a mesmerizing model who has a boyfriend of five years, and Slater Young, the Hotshot Engineer of Cebu, a privileged civil engineer who works for his father and hopes to become mature inside the PBB house.

The Captain’s Daughter of QC, Tin Patrimonio, the home-schooled daughter of basketball superstar Alvin Patrimonio, has yet to learn how to mingle well with other people. There is the Bay Diskarte of Ormoc, Kigoy Abarico, who ran away from his family and lived most of his life on the streets, and the Sales Lakay of Pangasinan, Roy Gamboa, a direct seller who struggled to provide a comfortable for his family.

Joining them are Luz McMclinton, the Mom of Steel of Muntinlupa, the struggling but wacky Pamu Pamorada, the Kitikiti Kid of Batangas, fisherman Joseph, the Promdihirang Tisoy of Marinduque, and tattoo artist Divine Maitland-Smith, the Darling Dude of Cebu and Kuya’s first openly lesbian housemate.

The Stunning Sweetheart of Olongapo, Kim De Guzman, hopes to find and get to know his biological father, while the Hopeless Romantic of Gensan, Paco Evangelista, wants to start anew after living through his life’s hardest challenges.

Meanwhile, Seichang Ushimi, the Pinoy Anime of Japan and Kevin Fowler, the Dreamboy of California, both born and raised in other countries, would like to reconnect with their Filipino roots by joining the reality show.

Aside from the 13 official housemates, 30 “reserved” housemates also graced last night’s “PBB Unlimited: The Big Fiesta” in which a lucky Carlo Romero, a retail sales consultant from Chicago, was given the chance to enter the house when his number was drawn in a lottery.

Carlo will have to accomplish four tasks this week so he can stay in the house and be an official housemate.

Meanwhile, this season’s guaranteed unlimited experience set off last night when Paco, Slater, and Luz were asked to go inside the confession room and choose which basic necessity they would want to have an unlimited supply of, but with corresponding consequences: water, food, or clothes.
