Create that Bahay Bakasyunan Vibe for Your Home

Bahay Kubo If you don’t want to leave your abode and yet would want to get the most of the vacay season, how do you make your home sweet home fulfill your bahay bakasyunan craving? Here are some tips inspired by the Summer Issue of Real Living Magazine April 2006 on how to conjure that summerific getaway feel for your home:

Banig is In

Wooden floors can be made more cozy with the texture and native designs of banig (native woven grass mats). Now doesn’t that make you feel bad that you chose to buy more edible pasalubongs from your last out of town trip than buy that banig with tribal designs?

What’s Wrong with a Sarong

The sarong is the beach equivalent of the infinite dress. Let your Picasso remakes rest for a while and this time make sabit the sarong on the wall. You can even throw away or maybe just keep your heavy sofa throw and use the feathery sarong instead. Tie-die sarongs are the best bet their colorful kaleidoscopic design complements best the summer season.

Fall for Indoor Waterfall

If you can’t visit Hinulugang TakTak, why not bring a piece of that heaven into your lowly abode by installing an indoor waterfall. One can surely benefit from the calming sound of the water trickling down from the indoor waterfall.

She Sees Seashells

Aside from using them as wind chimes, shells can very well make your windows more summerized and less boring. Don’t be shy to hit them yourself if the urban breeze fails to make them clink.

Go with the Greens

Live plants such as palms can easily freshen up any indoor space. Aside from serving as a natural air freshener, remember your Biology teacher blabbing about oxygen production and carbon dioxide consumption of plants? She’s actually telling the truth and it’s high time to benefit from such learning.

Where do you get these items? Visit Kulturang Filipino, Regalong Pambahay, Our Home or SM Department Store. Or you can even go to flea markets and tiangge for cheaper finds particularly the indigenous items. Other native home decor items can be easily handmade if you just let your creative juices flowing.

Don’t let yourself down with envy just because all your friends are having a great time in Boracay or Baguio. With just a few touches you can create your own little bahay bakasyunan. To complete the summer escapade ambience, don’t forget to turn up the volume of your mp3 with the funky music of Pedicab or Kamikazee, or Bob Marley or whatever suits your auditory.

This is great. You don’t need to spend that much of money on vacations if you have access with the materials needed for ala tropical house and surrounding.

Just buy your a relaxing music cd, hire a maseuse, buy an aroma candle..and you’re in your very own haven..
no long preparation…for the the bakasyon..

Next time, you can save some money for a “bato-jacuzzi”
