And So the Chronicles of Narnia Begins
Yesterday, after almost two weeks of not having any foreign movies in theaters, Filipino movie afficionados were treated with the opening of the first movie installment of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe introduces us to the four Pevensie kids, Aslan, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, Mr. Tomnus the faun, and of course the wicked white witch.
As with all other movies that were based on the written medium, it felt good to see these characters come to life in the big screen. It was like being transported into a world that we (Narnia readers) used to just read and imagined. Narnia fans have a reason to rejoice, the movie is very true to the book. Visually, the movie may not be as maginificent as other fantasy movies, but what the heck, the novel has very nice magical plot and so is the movie.
I have only one gripe, Liam Neeson’s voice did not give justice to the majestic and kingly character of Aslan. It lacks power and mystic which is how Aslan was described in the book.
But then it’s just a minor flaw. Over all, the movie is something that should not be missed. Relax and enjoy the magical journey kids!
