Exodus : Tales of the Enchanted Kingdom

I will make this post short as I’m afraid that Kaye might hate me for writing this post. I know she is not fond of watching Film Fest movies, or should I say Filipino movies in general? At any rate, the ongoing Metro Manila Film Festival is on its second week, and news had it that Enteng Kabisote is at head-to-head battle with Sen. Bong Revilla’s Exodus with regards to box-office receipts. Well, whoever wins it, I hope they thank the public for spending precious bucks to watch their movies.

And Sen. Bong Revilla has to thank me for writing this post for his movie. I admit, the 1000+ CGI animation employed by Director Erik Matti in the movie did a great job of making the movie a high quality film in terms of its special effects and action sequences. The flying sequence and other animated scenes  were comparable to foreign films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Underworld and what have-yous. In fact the whole movie is a combination of all those movies. Yes, Matti suceeded in coming up with a fantasy movie and what a fantasy it was.

If your criteria of a good movie is  its production values, you would like Exodus. But if you’re going to look for substance and depth in terms of storyline well, forget about this movie.

Watch Exodus and appreciate it for its aesthetic value (if you don’t mind watching Senator Bong Revilla in a Gladiator-like costume).

I love watching movies in general, especially really good Pinoy movies such as Crying Ladies and Maximo Oliveros. :-)

I heard Exodus’s visual effects is good. That in itself perhaps should be reason enough for Pinoy sci-fi fans to see it. I just wish that filmmakers will come up with pieces that have substance and are strong in story-telling, not just with visual effects. With the deluge of foreign movies and TV series, Pinoys have been smarting up about what they pay to watch in the moviehouses. Otherwise, there’s your sidewalk dibidi or orig DVD supplier to bargain with.
